Open Embassy – Colombian Embassy UK

Following the phenomenal success of the Korean and Indian Open Embassy events we saw the first Colombian Open Embassy event organised by Al Douglas(HASH7) and Paul Knowles (IMC) .

This invitation only summer event was fully booked within a matter of days.

It was a colourful display of energetic music, dance and art, attended by none other than the Ambassador of Colombia – HE MR Néstor Osorio Londoño whom made the welcoming speech to the guests.

Chef Flavio Evandro Amaral provided the great tasting food menu and Stephen Vincent told the story of the event through his immersive photography.

As usual and expected at every Open Embassy event guests including media, music industry and ambassadors take no time to network and exchange business cards.

The band representing Colombia was La Mambanegra. They are no ordinary salsa outfit their music is a mixture of hip-hop, ragga and knife-sharp funk. Hailing from the Colombian salsa capital of Cali, this nine-piece have been grooving hard their polyrhythmic, horn-heavy and thoroughly modern sound quickly earning them a devoted following across South America and beyond.

The feedback and follow-up from Open Embassy Colombia (Summer Salsa Party) has been amazing:

  • La Mambanegrafirst London performance was booked and staged via Open Embassy
  • La Mambanegra– Thanks to Open Embassy the band also performed two days later at the WOMAD festival. Founded in 1980 by English rock musician Peter Gabriel WOMAD is a feast of culture. Apart from experiencing the hottest musicians and inspiring new talent from around the world there is always much more to discover.
